Any amount you choose to contribute voluntarily may do so as long as it comes from a lawful source of income and does not exceed one-third of your monthly pay. Voluntary Contributions are taken out of your pay before taxes, which lowers your overall tax obligation.
This is how the rule of half your age works. Divide your age by 2, then add 2. How much of your monthly pre-tax income you should put toward your pension is represented here (as a percentage). For instance, if you are 30 years old, you should aim to contribute 15% of your monthly pre-tax salary to your pension.
If you begin contributing to your pension at age 30, you divide that amount by two, which equals 15. This is the proportion of your pretax income that you should ideally be contributing to your pension fund up until retirement. For instance: 15% of your pay should go toward pension contributions if you are 30 years old.
It is against the law for your employer to purposefully delay making your contributions for a protracted period of time. Employers who violate the law face fines of up to 20,000 pesos or sentences of up to 12 years in jail.

There is no limit employer contribution; firms may contribute whatever amount to employees' pensions. Employees are not obligated to make contributions if employers opt to make the complete minimum pension contribution allowed by law (but they can if they want to).
You might be eligible to apply for a contributions break for a minimum of three months if you haven't been a member for at least 12 months but are going through financial difficulty. If this is the case, please phone us at 0800 549 472 or enclose a letter explaining your circumstance.
